MOLYCARBIDE
ROTORS >
RRS
is proud to introduce another first, RRS molycarbide rotors.
A new race proven disc design has the following advantages,
as a result of the unique internationally patented molycarbide
material.
25% improved stopping distance
over any other iron disc material
Proven fade resistant material and directional venting
Higher resistance to wear then other iron construction
Lighter and stronger than other discs up to 35% lighter
Higher resistance to brake shudder or hot spotting then
any other iron construction micro balanced for smooth running.
This
unique design offers the following advantages:
REDUCES STOPPING DISTANCE: the co-efficient of friction,
"the bite", has a measured value 29% higher than other rotors.
This is acheived by the fine grain and bonding of the Molycarbide
microstructure. This superior feature delivers the most
important part of braking safety;
STOPPING HIGHEST RESISTANCE TO FADE: the closeness of the
metal matrix allows the transfer of heat more readily. Also,
the dissipation of heat occurs more freely resulting in
a far more stable material. Therefore you are assured of
the braking face stability and frictional quality of Molycarbide.
LONGER LASTING: Molycarbide is formed from molybdenum and
carbon, both of which are primary earth elements. Both are
extremely strong; carbon is the element in diamonds, and
when combined we have a material that is extremely wear
resistant.
COOLER OPERATION: the ability to transfer heat rapidly through
the structure which is formed of small, round, closely bonded
molecules, allows for the rapid dissipation of unwanted
heat. This will leave the brakes cool and safe to operate.
Directional venting also pulls cooler air through the rotor
aiding in the cooling process.
Directional venting MICRO BALANCED: The rotors are precision
balanced for smooth and vibration free operation throughout
all speed ranges-critical in circuit racing where lap speeds
can reach well over 100 mph.
NO SHUDDER OR PULSATION: the brakes operate cooler through
a greater number of thermal cycles. It maintains even transitions;
basically no hot spots that create deviations in the braking
surface. Our disc thickness variation is less than 5 microns
compared to car manufactures requirements of 20 microns.
The Molycarbide is the most stable material through hot
cold cycles.
MINIMISED BLACK DUST: the fine grain structure of molycarbideMolycarbide
brakes create a smoother surface that wears by the shedding
of a minute microscopic round metal balls rather than the
flakes left behind by other rotor. Therefore the wheels
shed the by-product of braking with Molycarbide rotors much
easier. Other materials wear by a flaking deposit and of
course wear faster creating the black dust you see on magnesium
wheels around today.
MANUFACTURED UP TO 35% LIGHTER:
the strength of the molycarbideMolycarbide material allows
for areas of the rotor to be reduced in mass. This reduction
is located where strength is not affected and gives your
vehicle many advantages, all achieved without any reduction
in safety.
BETTER HANDLING: this is a combination of two point's obviously
reduced stopping distance and the other by reduced weight.
With the lighter wheel assembly, steering is easier and
a lighter rotating mass will have less gyroscopic effect,
resulting in precise steering for the driver.
LESS SUSPENSION STRESS: the suspension has to be able to
ride out the bumps. Take away the unwanted back lash and
it is easy to see how springs and shock absorbers can control
a lighter brake assembly, making sure the impacts of the
road are not transferred to the steering system. Reduced
unsprung weight.
